Save You Money and EnergyThere are a lot of things that you can do around the house to avoid wasting energy. Plants are really good at cleaning up the environment, so plenty of plants have to be kept around your home. You can basically bring down the amount of pollutants in your house by 50% just by having plants around the household. Plants including the English ivy and peace lilies are terrific at absorbing poisonous gases like benzene and formaldehyde. When there are pets or little kids, you should find plants that are not poisonous.

Taking a bath is a better alternative than showering, since it takes less water to soak in a bathtub. If you have to shower, do so quickly. If you put in a low-flow shower head and faucet, you can expect to save about 50% on water use.

You may wish to opt for low-flow toilets also. You can really avoid wasting water with the low-flush toilets and they produce less greenhouse gases. If you are not planning to get a new toilet, try putting a plastic bottle with the cap on in the toilet’s water tank so the tank uses less water.

If you restore your appliances, not only will you save money, but they won’t end up in the landfills. Another way to save energy is to avoid using an appliance at all, by hanging your clothes out to dry. The typical family does 400 loads of laundry yearly, so that’s a lot of energy being used if they all used dryers. Merely hanging your clothes on an indoor drying rack can significantly bring down your electricity use. Clothes-lines today come in many styles that are easily movable, and when not in use can be put out-of-the-way. Clothes can be hung anywhere, even outside if the weather is nice.
